The goal of this fund is to support the overall Grand Rapids Community in honor of a legendary man who loved to call it home. The focus of the fund's proceeds will be used to support community youth development and athletic and educational programs where financial need is a barrier to participation.
Ray McCahill moved from the soutside of Chicago to the Grand Rapids Community to play basketball for Aquinas College. After his playing career ended, he went on to become a successful varsity coach for Grand Rapids Catholic Central. Based on his efforts as a player and coach, Ray was placed in both the hall of fame at Aquinas and GR Catholic Central HS.
Ray always loved competition, especially when it came to individuals showing off their skills on the court. In an effort to keep his legacy as a local player and coach alive, the Legends Invitational Tournament was created in 2016 in Ray's honor. The Legends Invitational is an annual high school basketball tournament that features some of the best teams in the greater Grand Rapids area. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Ray McCahill Family fund, so in addition to your contribution we encourage you to attend!
